Conceptualized around sustainable and ecological values, I changed the development strategy for the Junoot project by exploring a pilot project with the California Earth Institute of Art and Architecture (Cal-Earth). The project used local earth as building material, simple earth architecture techniques, and introduced solar panel technology to create eco-friendly structures that are non-disruptive to the surrounding environment. With an aim to increase energy efficiency and reduce cost, the integration of large solar panels, a solar heater and solar air conditioning system allowed for a 40% increase in energy efficiency and a 30% saving in cost. Socially conscious, the development engaged local labor and taught volunteers how to build using material sourced from the earth.
